PRP – Plasma Rich Platelets

We are excited to offer PRP treatments in Raleigh and Wilmington!

What is PRP?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma, which is found naturally in the blood. A centrifuge is used to separate these platelets from the red blood cells. Many famous athletes like Tiger Woods and Hines Ward have openly discussed the natural benefits and healing properties of platelet-rich plasma for injuries.

Similarly, this research has led to new treatments, combining popular cosmetic procedures with PRP like dermal fillers, microneedling and skin rejuvenation.

What is the process like?

First, a nurse will draw blood and spin it through a centrifuge to separate your platelets. From there, there are different treatment options that can be combined. Our nurses can directly inject the separated PRP into areas of the face for rejuvenation. Additionally, our trained medical estheticians can topically apply the PRP while performing the microneedling treatment, to help it penetrate deeper into the skin and enhance the benefits of microneedling.

After treatment, there can be swelling or redness wherever the platelet-rich plasma is injected. This is completely normal and to be expected. As with a regular microneedling treatment, there will be redness and pinpoint bleeding from the micro-injuries. Most people will see their skin improve texture in the first 24-72 hours and see complete results in anywhere between 4-8 weeks. Although it may depend on desired outcome, multiple treatments are typically recommended.
